The Grey Lands are neither Heaven nor Hell.
They are the shore between endings and eternities.
Above hangs an infinite black sky filled with stars and constellations. At its centre stands a silver lake and a great, pale tree whose roots disappear into the waters and whose branches reach into the heavens.
Unjudged souls drift through the realm as floating lights, waiting for the Judge's decree. Some are sent to the lake, where memory dissolves and suffering comes to rest. Others ascend to the constellations, becoming part of the eternal sky.
Liminal.
Ancient.
Quietly devastating.
This is not punishment. This is waiting. The terror isn't fire, it's the stillness of a place that has processed every soul that ever lived with complete indifference.
The moment between sleep and waking, stretched into eternity.
Bureaucracy as cosmic horror.
